Internship Opportunity: Oral History Pilot Project at Congreso de Latinos Unidos
Are you interested in history of the Latino community in Philadelphia and proficient in Spanish? Participate in the pilot project to create oral histories! Professor Raymond Albert of the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research is recruiting one to two student assistant(s) for an oral history pilot project at Congreso de Latinos, a non-profit organization with an expert focus on the Latino community.
Embarking on its 40th anniversary in 2017, Congreso intends to commence a larger project to commemorate the agency’s anniversary, which will include a series of events throughout 2017—and ideally—an exhibition to illustrate the evolution of both the agency and the community it serves. In the context of a Praxis placement, Professor Albert would supervise the student(s) around conducting such histories, analyzing findings, working with Congreso to identify appropriate participants, and discussing how to situate research within the context of the community.
The pilot would take place in Spring 2016 and could be the fieldwork component of a Praxis Independent Study course. Interested students should be bilingual (Spanish) and comfortable working/talking with individuals, as well as comfortable navigating a community setting.
