Bryn Mawr's History of Art Department Well Represented at 2017 College Art Association Conference
It was another impressive year for Bryn Mawr art historians at the 2017 annual College Art Association conference in New York City. Several current faculty and graduate students presented their research and convened panels, as did many program alums.
Professor Homay King was a featured panelist in the keynote session honoring CAA's 2017 Distinguished Scholar Kaja Silverman. Professor King also presented a paper, The Metamorphic Image: Jeremy Blake’s Winchester Trilogy in the session "The Kinetic Imaginary: Liquid Modernity and the Animation of Postwar Art, Part I."
Professor David Cast co-chaired a session, "Arts and Politics, Religious and Secular Iconocrazia," and Professor Emerita Dale Kinney participated in a panel on "The American Dream of the Mediterranean: Lessons from History."
Offsite, Professor Lisa Saltzman participated in a panel discussion, “Reverberations: Historical and Art Historical Collisions,” convened on the occasion of the exhibition Inventing Downtown: Artist-Run Galleries in New York City 1952-1965.
History of art Ph.D. candidate Katherine Rochester presented her paper Beyond the Film Frame: The Animated Ornament in Exhibition, and Ph.D. candidate in Archaeology Holly Pritchett presented Taking Center Stage: Depictions of Childhood on Athenian Vases, Plaques, and Votive Reliefs.
