Computer Science is a hot major at Bryn Mawr and beyond. Read more about "Generation CS" in this story by The Philadelphia Inquirer.
From the article:
Students are being recruited by Google, Apple, Microsoft, and other high-tech companies, as well as financial firms.
Dianna Xu, computer science department chair at Bryn Mawr, recalled a conversation she overheard among seniors last year.
“One student said, ‘Oh, Facebook is offering me $120 or $130K a year, and they’re giving me $100,000 start-up cash. Should I take it?’” Xu said. “The rest of the students go, ‘No, no, wait for a better offer.’”
The Computer Science Department at Bryn Mawr is founded on the belief that computer science should transcend being a subfield of mathematics and engineering and play a broader role in all forms of human inquiry. The Computer Science Department is supported jointly by faculty at both Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges. The department welcomes students who wish to pursue a major in computer science. Additionally, the department offers a minor in computer science, a minor in computational methods, and a concentration in computer science (at Haverford College).
