Bryn Mawr College’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research and The College of New Jersey have launched a partnership that will enable selected TCNJ students in a number of majors to apply for admission into the GSSWSR Master of Social Service degree program as early as their sophomore year.
“Because of TCNJ’s strong liberal-arts core, we know that these students possess the critical thinking skills to not just excel in the classroom but to successfully navigate the complexities faced by today’s social work professionals,” says GSSWSR Dean Darlyne Bailey.
Students majoring in sociology, psychology, public health, women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, as well as Bonner Scholars, are eligible for the program.
TCNJ students selected for the program will receive a 50 percent tuition scholarship; could have certain course requirements waived based on their undergraduate academic performance; and will not be required to pay an application fee when applying. Students in the program will be paired up with a GSSWSR faculty advisor. A maximum of five students each academic year can apply for the program, which is being piloted for the 2017–18 academic year.
“This partnership provides a terrific opportunity for TCNJ students interested in pursuing a career in social work,” said Lisa Angeloni, TCNJ's vice president for enrollment management. “Bryn Mawr’s program is one of the most well-regarded in the nation, and this partnership makes it that much easier for our students to achieve their academic and career goals.”
TCNJ is a highly selective institution that is consistently recognized as one of the top comprehensive colleges in the nation. TCNJ maintains the fifth highest four-year graduation rate among all public colleges and universities.
Bryn Mawr’s GSSWSR is one of the nation’s oldest academic social work programs. The school provides a learning environment that is supportive and intellectually rigorous, encouraging critical thinking and the expression of social work values through classes, field-based training, research, and active civic engagement in collaboration with the college as a whole.
