Dear Bryn Mawr Students and Staff,
When it met on November 16th, the Faculty of Bryn Mawr College voted a sense of the meeting to express support for students and staff concerned over the recent election and its aftermath. An overwhelming majority of faculty members offer the following:
We, the faculty of Bryn Mawr, are deeply distressed by the targeting of various populations during and since the recent elections, and by the harassment and attacks that have occurred at schools and on college and university campuses that have been motivated by racism, xenophobia, LGBQTA-phobia, religious intolerance, and sexism. We pledge to speak up in the face of injustice and discrimination, and to stand up with and for those who are most vulnerable in our community and our nation.
We will work to make this campus a place in which all feel free to work and live. We affirm the power of education as a source of tools to analyze and critique positions that marginalize or attack particular groups of peopleāas well as to learn to build inclusive, diverse, democratic, and thoughtful communities. We also commit ourselves to the work of engaging with those who hold views different from our own, and to contribute to addressing the divide that characterizes our politics and our society.
We offer our support to all of those in our community who are threatened and or who fear for the well-being of their families and friends. Now, more than ever, we need to care empathetically for each other, while never ceasing to work fiercely for justice.
