Assistant Professor of Biology Alison Weber

As we begin the semester, we're highlighting Bryn Mawr's newest faculty members. The College supports faculty excellence in both research and teaching.

Assistant Professor of Biology Alison Weber is interested in understanding how animals acquire and process information about the world around them in order to guide behavior. Her research focuses on how properties of the nervous system, body structure, and behavior interact to shape sensory feedback.

She investigates these questions in the context of insect flight, in which feedback must be exceptionally fast and accurate in order for flight to be both stable and maneuverable. This work provides insights into foundational principles of sensory processing in the nervous system and also informs the design of bio-inspired sensing systems.

In her teaching, Weber is passionate about making computational and quantitative approaches accessible to young biologists.

This fall Weber is teaching Computational Methods in the Sciences.
