Philadelphia's New Streetlights Powered by Alum Meagan Murray-Bruce's Research

A recent Philadelphia Inquirer article delves into the city's new LED streetlights, which in addition to being energy-saving could help reduce crime and fatal crashes. Meagan Murray-Bruce '20 worked on this initiative during an internship with the Philadelphia Streets Department's traffic and lighting unit, highlighted in the video below from 2020.
A math major at Bryn Mawr and a member of the women's basketball team, Meagan researched the savings the city could achieve by switching their nearly 145,000 streetlights from incandescent bulbs to more energy-efficient LED bulbs and tested the remote controller system for the lights.

Meagan went on to earn a master's degree in applied math from Claremont Graduate University and is currently working on her Ph.D there while working as a business analyst at PenFed Credit Union.
The Department of Mathematics has been nationally recognized by the American Mathematical Society.
