Dana Gold '18, assistant director for employer relations, Career & Civic Engagement Center

Dana Gold '18 started at Bryn Mawr this summer as the assistant director for employer relations in the Career & Civic Engagement Center. In a recent email exchange, she told us a bit about herself and her role at the College.

When did you start at Bryn Mawr?

I started in June 2023 as a staff member but am a BMC alum myself, so I am not new to the community. It’s great to be back!

What are some of the things you do in your role?

I work in the Career & Civic Engagement Center as assistant director for employer relations. I love that my job is different every day. I meet with employer and alum partners who are hiring for internships and post-grad jobs. I also plan events ranging from lunches with alums to career fairs with more than 90 employers. I also oversee our career services website, Handshake, which is an evergreen database of opportunities available to Bryn Mawr students and alums. In sum, if there’s interest from a hiring organization to source from the Bryn Mawr community, it’s likely that I’m the one working with them to get the opportunity in front of students.

What did you do prior to coming to Bryn Mawr?

I’ve been in Philadelphia since graduating from Bryn Mawr and worked at a few nonprofits in partnership-based roles. Most recently, I worked on a large-scale charitable bike ride doing fundraising and event planning.

What got you interested in this sort of work?

I get really excited about work that helps other people reach the next step in their life. My first job out of college was at a college access program helping high school juniors get ready to apply to college. After that, I worked at a refugee resettlement program on the employment team. I am grateful to be able to work with a similar age group as I did at my first job but this time within career services. It is so gratifying to hear that someone I’m working with has landed a job!

What's it like as an alum to come back and work at Bryn Mawr?

I have enjoyed “seeing behind the curtain” and learning about all the care and effort that goes into making the Bryn Mawr experience enjoyable, supportive, and productive for students. Bryn Mawr staff are dedicated to creating the best experience possible for every student and I have loved learning about all the ways staff stay up to date on student goings-on and campus life. It’s also great to see the ways in which the campus & campus life have evolved since I was a student.

What can you tell us about yourself outside of your role at Bryn Mawr? Any hobbies, interests, or causes you're involved with?

I love trying new restaurants as a way to explore new Philadelphia neighborhoods. I’m also really into cooking/baking myself, especially for my friends. I am grateful to have a lot of Bi-Co friends still in the Philly area. And I’m currently working on sewing a queen-size quilt!
