Steph Herold '09 Writes About On-Screen Abortion Stories in The New York Times
Steph Herold '09, who is a researcher for Abortion Onscreen, a program of Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health at the University of California, San Francisco, wrote a piece for The New York Times about how abortion is represented on television and in film and the impact of that representation.
From the article:
"Onscreen depictions of abortion often significantly exaggerate the medical risk associated with it, overemphasizing serious complications that are extremely rare or nonexistent in real life, like infertility, mental illness and death."
Herold first connected with reproductive justice work as an intern with the Women’s Medical Fund (now called the Abortion Liberation Fund of Pennsylvania) through Bryn Mawr's Community Based Work Study program and found a calling that has guided her career since.
