What’s happening at your internship?
This summer I have been working remotely with the survivor services department of the Nationalities Service Center (NSC), a nonprofit that works with immigrants, asylum-seekers, and refugees in a variety of ways. I have been working primarily with the Bridge to Wellness program, which serves migrants that are survivors of crime(s) within Pennsylvania. As a remote intern I have been assisting case managers with client resource research and referrals, facilitating specialty support groups for NSC clients, accompanying clients to appointments, and advocating for clients’ right and needs within various local offices.
Why did you apply for this internship?
I applied for this internship hoping for an opportunity to explore a career in case management and channel my newfound passion for refugee and migrant studies—and that’s exactly what I found! I’ve been able to put the knowledge I’ve gained while at Bryn Mawr to good use and delve into the ins and outs of case management prior to my pursuit of a master of social services degree. As a student in the combined A.B./M.S.S. program at Bryn Mawr, I will begin my foundation year at the Graduate School for Social Work and Social Research this fall.
Was there anything special about how you found this internship?
I found out about the NSC at a social justice-focused networking event hosted by Bryn Mawr during my sophomore year. I connected with a recent graduate that had interned with and currently worked for NSC. Due to COVID-19 I couldn’t apply until my junior spring so I’m really glad I held onto those business cards I collected in February 2019!
