Class Year: 2025
Major: Undecided
Hometown: Guilford, CT
Internship Organization: The New York Center for Children
Job Title: Marketing and Development Intern
Location: New York City, NY
What’s happening at your internship?
The New York Center for Children is a non-profit organization that provides trauma-focused therapy services to help children heal from their abuse. Much of my work involves outreach to the community and large donor corporations to provide the funds necessary to allow NYCC to continue offering necessary services. My work is mainly administrative, but I’ve also been given the chance to observe the medical and psychoanalytical side of the healing process in traumatized adolescents.
Why did you apply for this internship?
I applied because NYCC’s work consolidates my interests in social work, clinical psychology, and the management of non-profit institutions.
Can you talk about the skills you are learning and why they are important to you?
Working alongside therapists, medical examiners, board members, and the head of development has exposed me to a wide array of career opportunities ranging from management to development, to behavioral health professions. What’s more, I am now more sensitive to issues of domestic violence that remain an unfortunate reality.
What is the most rewarding part of your internship?
The most rewarding part for me is the satisfaction of knowing that my work benefits children who are in dire need of trauma-based therapy services that might not otherwise be available to them without organizations such as NYCC.
