Signature Campus Landmarks

Every campus has buildings and outdoor spaces people remember first. At Bryn Mawr, those places often come with a story: a tradition, a favorite view, a piece of architectural history, or a moment from a student’s first visit. Taylor Hall

Taylor Hall is one of the original buildings of Bryn Mawr College, constructed between 1879 and 1884 as the College’s first administrative and academic building. Designed by Addison Hutton, it still holds a central place in campus life today, with the President’s Office and Provost’s Office located inside. For visitors, Taylor is often one of the clearest links between Bryn Mawr’s early history and the working campus students know now.

National Historic Landmark

Old Library

Old Library is one of Bryn Mawr’s most recognizable historic buildings. Designed by Cope & Stewardson and completed in 1907, it originally served as the College’s library and still carries many of the architectural details that help define campus. Its design draws on buildings at Oxford University, connecting Bryn Mawr’s campus to a longer tradition of collegiate architecture while remaining distinctly part of the College’s own history.

Rockefeller Hall

Rockefeller Hall, often called “Rock,” is Bryn Mawr’s largest residence hall and one of the campus buildings most closely tied to the College’s castle-like look. Completed in 1904 as a gift from John D. Rockefeller, it was the last residence hall designed by Cope & Stewardson. Its towers and arch make it easy to recognize, while original details like fireplaces and window seats connect the building to the early residential life of the College.

The Cloisters

Tucked within Old Library, the Cloisters are one of the spaces visitors often remember after seeing campus. The stone walkways and open courtyard create a quieter setting at the center of one of Bryn Mawr’s landmark buildings. Today, the Cloisters are also home to “Don’t Forget to Remember (Me),” a monument that invites reflection on the College’s history and the stories that continue to shape how Bryn Mawr understands its campus.

Keeping Bryn Mawr Beautiful

Caring for Bryn Mawr’s campus means thinking about the resources, spaces, and systems that shape daily life here. The College is AASHE STARS Silver-rated, a recognition of sustainability work across campus. That work includes a commitment to carbon neutrality by 2035, renewable energy credits for 100 percent of electricity purchases, food and leaf composting, and so much more.
