Campus Philly's Deborah Diamond '85 on 'The Passion Question' and Career Planning
Deborah Diamond '85 was a political science major at Bryn Mawr. She went on to earn a Ph.D. at the University of Chicago but ultimately decided against a career in academia and is now the president of Campus Philly, an organization devoted to helping the city of Philadelphia retain young residents after they graduate from college.
Diamond shared some career advice at a recent event held by the Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development (PHENND).
“The best quality someone can have is to be a quick learner because jobs change,” Diamond is quoted as telling the group of PHENND fellows at the event.
At Bryn Mawr, the Leadership, Innovation, and Liberal Arts Center (LILAC) works closely with students to help them identify their interests and potential career paths.
The focus of Bryn Mawr's Department of Political Science is on analytical sophistication rather than on knowledge of a body of facts. Graduates learn to think critically about political life in a variety of settings. Consequently there are no required courses, and each student's major program is developed in an individual way through close consultation with her major advisor. To ensure that all graduates can create compelling arguments, writing is a part of almost every course in the department. Learn more on the department website.
