Assistant Professor of Social Work David S. Byers and Anan Fareed of Al Quds University led an online discussion on July 17 focused on a new article Byers wrote with Fareed and Khalid Hreish, “The Vernacular Ethics of Stigmatized Care: Reinterpreting Acceptance and Confidentiality for Social Work in Palestine,” that was published in Social Service Review. The article reports findings from a large study that the authors have been working on for several years in the West Bank.
The 90-minute discussion was co-sponsored by the American Association for Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work and the USA Palestine Mental Health Network. The event was moderated by Christine Schmidt, LCSW.
Byers' research focuses on community and clinical ethics, especially related to care and allyship in settings of stigma, precarity, bullying, and political and intersectional oppression.
