Our Investment Strategy
The Investment Office believes the evergreen relevance of Bryn Mawr College’s mission is our enduring advantage.
About Our Strategy
Like most endowments, Bryn Mawr’s endowment is meant to support Bryn Mawr into perpetuity. Because of this time horizon, the Investment Office can think very long term when making investment decisions. By extension, the strategy can be equity-centric, and the research effort can be strategic and programmatic in its approach to investment themes. Thanks to that privilege, the Investment Office can be curious and creative in our pursuit of opportunities, rigorous and holistic in our diligence, and patient and empathetic in our relationships.
Questions We Ask Ourselves
To avoid the pitfalls that might come with such a simple charge, the Investment Office starts by asking ourselves the following questions, which ultimately make our strategy real and substantive in practice:
- Have we leveraged our best thinking to produce differentiated relationships and, ultimately, differentiated outcomes for the College?
- Have we balanced patience in the face of false urgency with commerciality and speed in the face of true opportunity?
- Do we treat those in our ecosystem with integrity and care, and our investment partners with rigor and respect?
Whether you are a BMC community member, a finance industry participant, or a prospective teammate, we invite you to get to know us better.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
As a part of Bryn Mawr College, the Investment Office proudly embodies and promotes Bryn Mawr's Mission Statement, which asserts that "equity and inclusion serve as the engine for excellence and innovation," and that “a commitment to racial justice and to equity across all aspects of diversity propels our students, faculty, and staff to reflect upon and work to build fair, open and welcoming institutional structures, values, and culture.”
We take a holistic approach, grounded in data, analysis, and the judgment of investment professionals with Bryn Mawr’s mission at heart, to incorporate DEI into our investment process. The Investment Office express Bryn Mawr’s DEI values in two critical areas:
- Daily Operations: We promote and celebrate the many manifestations of diversity among members of our small team.
- Investment Due Diligence and Manager Monitoring: The majority of our manager roster has a stated DEI strategy focused on its own organization’s hiring and talent management practices. Where voluntarily and confidentially provided, we monitor DEI metrics and policy alignment among our managers, recognizing that diversity takes many shapes and forms, and may manifest differently from country to country.
