Professional Pipeline
Identifying and Advancing the Spiritual Infrastructure of the Future [link to main page] will provide two cohorts of early-stage doctoral students with internships in positions related to the emerging spiritual infrastructure. Research and public-facing programs about the spiritual infrastructure of the future will broaden understanding and future leadership in the academy, education and religious organizations only if there is a strong pipeline of people prepared to continue this work. The professional development component of this project recognizes the importance of steeping current doctoral students in the conversation about the emerging spiritual infrastructure so they can understand and lead this work in the future.
This project will partner with the American Council of Learned Societies to host two national competitions for interested students. Previous ACLS programs, including the Public Fellows and Leading Edge programs, which placed recent PhD students in non-profit organizations for two years, were highly successful. Identifying and Advancing the Spiritual Infrastructure of the Future [link to main page] takes up these programs’ premise that graduate students with training in humanistic and social scientific approaches to religion have the unique ability to solve problems for, and enhance the mission of, related efforts in foundations, non-profit organizations and other settings outside of the academy.
This page will be updated as the internship application and selection process becomes available.
