The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is proud to congratulate Vincent Gregoric on the successful April 19th defense of this doctoral dissertation "Rydberg atoms in the presence of electric and magnetic fields."
Vincent's work uses external electric and magnetic fields to manipulate ultracold, highly excited Rydberg atoms in various ways. Using a highly-tailored electric field, chosen by an optimization technique known as a genetic algorithm, Vincent was able to gain to better control over the ionization process of atoms. His work is a way forward improving the standard method of field ionization method used to measure a highly-excited atom's quantum state.
Vincent has accepted a three-year Visiting Assistant Professorship in Physics at Austin College in Sherman, Texas beginning in the Fall. Congratulations Vincent!
