Capoeira Club Wellness Workshop
The workshop will begin with a brief outline of capoeira's history and how it is practiced today. For some, it is a form of defense; for some, it is spiritual; and for some, it is something else. This portion will be short. There will be mentions of slavery and police tensions, but we will not go into detail.
Next, we will warm up and stretch before doing an introductory capoeira class. Everyone is encouraged to participate regardless of prior experience. All possible accommodations will be made to allow for the full participation of all interested.
To cool down at the end, we will listen to some capoeira music more closely and, depending on time and interest, learn a song.
Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably in sweatpants or leggings and to bring a water bottle in case. They should also be advised that no shoes are allowed in the dance studio (capoeira is usually practiced barefoot anyway).
Bryn Mawr College welcomes the full participation of all individuals in all aspects of campus life. Should you wish to request a disability-related accommodation for this event, please contact the event sponsor/coordinator. Requests should be made as early as possible.
