Faculty Workshop & Lunch: "Academic Writing: Outreach to the People" - Facilitated by Leonard Cassuto
Join professor, author, and editor Leonard Cassuto for a faculty workshop titled "Academic Writing: Outreach to the People." All academic writers want our writing to be read by as wide an audience as possible. But how can work toward that goal? How can scholars reach out beyond the boundaries of our specializations? To whom should we reach? In this workshop, we’ll look at samples of published writing across the disciplines—and then do a little practice of our own. Our goal will be to educe basic principles—and to develop the sympathetic skill of putting ourselves in the reader’s place. Lunch will be provided! Leonard Cassuto is Professor of English at Fordham University. He has written on topics ranging from science to sports for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and more. He is the author or editor of ten books, including The New PhD: How to Build a Better Graduate Education, The Graduate School Mess: What Caused It and How We Can Fix It, and Academic Writing as if Readers Matter.
