Purim is one of the most entertaining Jewish holidays. Purim commemorates the time when the Jewish people living in Persia were saved from the evil Haman who vowed: βto destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews, young and old, infants and women, in a single day.β The name Purim means "Lots" (chance) since Haman had thrown lots to determine when he would carry out his diabolical scheme, as recorded in the Book of Esther. The Jewish people were saved by the courage of a young Jewish woman called Esther. On Purim, we read this story, dress up in costumes, give charity, send gifts of food to friends, and celebrate with a feast.
