Types of Clubs
Clubs connect alumnae/i within specific geographical areas and may have different degrees of formality in their structure and activities.
Formal Clubs meet two or more of the following criteria:
- Have elected officers
- Governed by a set of bylaws
- Have tax-exempt 501(c)(3) and IRS filing requirements
- Generally collect dues to absorb clubs' operating/program expenses (may also charge for attendance at specific events)
- File end of year reports with the Alumnae Association
- Expectation for formal clubs: engage alumnae/i through programming each quarter
Informal Clubs meet two or more of the following criteria:
- Core group of volunteers plans events
- Have goals for the group but are not governed by bylaws
- Do not collect dues; events are generally self-funded
- File end of year reports with the Alumnae Association
- Expectation for informal clubs: engage alumnae/i through programming two to three times a year or as the group decides.
For regions with 50 or more alumnae/i but no club, the Alumnae Association may identify an ambassador who will work with the Alumnae Association to engage alumnae/i in that region. See information on our Ambassador program.
