Get To Know Us
The Quantitative Center is in Canwyll House West, across the driveway behind the Campus Center. When you exit the Campus Center via the doors by the Post Office package pick-up window, the Quantitative Center will be the closest building to you. Our door is the one on the left.
Unlike tutors, who work with students one-on-one, Q mentors work with small groups of students. They are shared among all the students studying in the Quantitative Center.
Yes! You can study in the Q Center from 8 am to 11 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, we close at 6 p.m.
It is a great idea to review before taking the test, to shake off any post-graduation cobwebs. Since almost all quantitative work in college is applied math, the Q test is mostly word problems. It is evaluating critical thinking and mathematical fluency in applications. The actual math involved is not complex.
These topics are covered: basic math and basic algebra (up to but not including polynomials or functions); reading graphs and charts; and drawing logical conclusions from statements or data. Please note that Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus are not covered.
Many students prepare by reviewing problems from:
- Khan Academy
- ALEKS
- Purplemath, ‘Beginning Algebra Topics’
- Basic math problems in an SAT or ACT prep book
No matter which path you choose, practicing some word problems in advance could help improve your confidence and accuracy!
