Junior Year Success Checklist

As a junior at Bryn Mawr College, this year is an important time to start planning for your future. 

Stay on Track

Use this checklist to stay on track with academic, career, and personal goals. Be sure to connect with the Career & Civic Engagement Center, Dean Roberson-Hornsby, and other campus resources for guidance along the way!

Academic Advising

  • Schedule a check-in with Dean Roberson-Hornsby to discuss academic progress and graduation requirements.
  • Meet with your major advisor to confirm you are on track for degree completion.
  • Explore graduate school, summer research, or internship opportunities.
  • Consider independent study, thesis, or capstone project options for your major.
  • Research fellowship and scholarship opportunities. (more about fellowships)

Career Exploration and Planning

  • Schedule an appointment with Career & Civic Engagement to explore career paths.
  • Attend career fairs and networking events. (upcoming events)
  • Research potential internships and apply early.
  • Begin drafting or updating your resume and cover letter.
  • Conduct informational interviews with alumni or professionals in your field of interest. (join Mawrter Connect)
  • Explore potential gap year opportunities, fellowships, or service programs. (service opportunities)
  • Consider whether graduate or professional school aligns with your goals.

Graduate & Professional School Preparation

  • Research programs and admission requirements for graduate or professional schools.
  • Attend graduate school fairs and information sessions. (register with Handshake)
  • Prepare for required standardized tests (GRE, LSAT, MCAT, etc.).
  • Seek letters of recommendation from professors and mentors.
  • Draft a personal statement and have it reviewed by Career & Civic Engagement. (make an appointment)
  • Be aware of application deadlines and submission requirements.

Financial and Personal Planning

  • Explore funding options for graduate school, including scholarships, fellowships, and graduate assistantships.
  • Review your financial aid package and plan for any remaining terms. (visit Financial Aid)
  • Schedule an appointment to meet with your Financial Aid Counselor.
  • Consider financial literacy resources to plan for post-graduation expenses. (find resources here)
  • Prioritize self-care and maintain a balance between academic and personal commitments.
