Summer 2023
STEMLA’s 2023 Summer Program blended academics and adventure as Fellows explored global medicine through courses, field trips, and community building.
Between July 10 and August 4, 2023, 20 new STEMLA Fellows joined us on campus for the second in-person STEMLA Summer Program.
The theme of the 2023 STEMLA Fellows Summer Program was Global Medicine: The History and Biology of Epidemics. STEMLA Fellows completed three courses this summer for a total of 1.5 course credits.
- The Biology of Epidemics taught by Michelle Wein and Jennifer Skirkanich
- Conventional Medicine and Indigenous Societies in Africa taught by Kalala Ngalamulume
- Quantitative Reasoning in STEM taught by Daisy Sudparid
In addition to courses, Fellows visited the Philadelphia Museum of Art, saw the Barbie movie, took a field trip to the Penn Museum and the Mütter Museum.
